# LazyScreenshots: the Mac screenshot tool for builders

We make a macOS screenshot tool for developers and other builders who need to show visual information to AI assistants or any application that accepts pasted images. With one keystroke, we capture a selected region, copy it, switch to a chosen app, and paste it, reducing context switching.

## Workflow

Without LazyScreenshots, showing something to Claude or Cursor involves taking a screenshot, finding the file, dragging it into chat, switching back, and repeating. The page estimates approximately 30 seconds per screenshot; repeating that 30 times per day represents 15 minutes lost.

With LazyScreenshots, press **⌘⇧2**, select and capture a region, and the result is pasted into the AI assistant in approximately 2 seconds with no context switching.

## Features

### Capture and auto-paste

Press **⌘⇧2** and select a region. We capture it, copy it to the clipboard, switch to the selected AI assistant or other target app, and paste it.

### Screenshot history

Press **⌘⇧V** to open a grid overlay of recent screenshots. Click a screenshot to select it, press Enter to paste it, and use the history as a visual clipboard. You can view, multi-select, annotate, and paste screenshots without searching through folders.

### Annotate and measure

Add arrows, shapes, dimension measurements, numbered markers, text notes, and pixelation before pasting. This lets you mark up an image to explain exactly what you mean.

### AI-powered editing

Remove backgrounds and edit images with AI inside the screenshot workflow; no separate app is needed.

### Additional tools

- **Color Dropper:** Extract a color from a screenshot and copy its hex value to the clipboard with one click.
- **Burst Mode:** Rapid-fire screenshots are stacked in the clipboard so they can be pasted together. Burst Mode detects screenshots taken in quick succession, including screenshots made with native **⌘⇧3** and **⌘⇧4** capture methods, and displays an indicator showing how many were captured.
- **AI Background Remove:** Remove backgrounds with one click.
- **Change File Type:** Convert between PNG, JPG, WebP, and other formats from the editor.
- **Numbered Annotations:** Place numbered markers to guide an AI through a complex interface.
- **Pixelate:** Blur sensitive information such as email addresses and API keys before sharing.
- **Notes:** Add text directly to screenshots so the context can be read by an AI assistant.
- **Shapes and Arrows:** Add rectangles, circles, arrows, and lines.

We add these capabilities on top of existing macOS screenshots rather than replacing them. Native **⌘⇧3**, **⌘⇧4**, and **⌘⇧5** shortcuts continue to work. Screenshots taken with those shortcuts are automatically copied to the clipboard.

## Target applications and switching

We work with any app that accepts image paste, including Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Codex, Windsurf, VS Code with Copilot, Slack, Notion, Jira, Linear, email, Google Docs, Figma, and bug trackers.

After pressing **⌘⇧2**, use the arrow keys to cycle through open Mac applications. We remember the last selection and default to the app used most recently.

## macOS requirements

LazyScreenshots requires **macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later** and is optimized for both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
