# How to Screenshot Your iPhone from Your Mac

**May 13, 2026 · LazyScreenshots Team**

We explain five ways to capture iPhone screens on a Mac for documentation, tutorials, bug reports, marketing assets, editing, annotation, and sharing.

## Method 1: iPhone Mirroring

**Requirements**

- Mac running macOS Sequoia (15.0) or later, with Apple Silicon or a T2 chip
- iPhone running iOS 18 or later
- Both devices signed in to the same Apple Account with two-factor authentication
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled on both devices
- iPhone locked and not actively in use

**Setup**

1. Open **iPhone Mirroring** from Applications, the Dock, or Spotlight (`Cmd+Space`, then type `iPhone Mirroring`).
2. On first use, follow the pairing prompts and authenticate with the iPhone passcode.
3. The iPhone screen appears in a Mac window.

**Capture the screenshot**

1. Navigate to the desired screen using the Mac's mouse and keyboard.
2. Press `Cmd+Shift+4`, then `Space`.
3. Click the iPhone Mirroring window.

The capture includes the window chrome and rounded device frame. To capture only the screen content, press `Cmd+Shift+4` and drag over the screen area inside the frame.

Wireless streaming introduces minor compression compared with a native iPhone screenshot, but it is suitable for documentation, blog posts, and presentations. For pixel-perfect native-resolution captures, use QuickTime or Xcode.

## Method 2: QuickTime Player

QuickTime displays the iPhone over USB at full resolution without compression and is the preferred method when image quality matters.

**Setup**

1. Connect the iPhone to the Mac with a USB or USB-C cable.
2. If prompted, tap **Trust This Computer** on the iPhone.
3. Open **QuickTime Player**.
4. Choose **File > New Movie Recording**.
5. Click the dropdown beside the record button.
6. Under **Camera**, select the iPhone.

The iPhone appears in the QuickTime preview at native resolution; recording is not required.

**Capture**

1. Navigate to the desired iPhone screen.
2. Press `Cmd+Shift+4`, then `Space`.
3. Click the QuickTime window.

For a capture without window chrome, press `Cmd+Shift+4` and drag precisely around the iPhone display.

### iPhone screen resolutions via QuickTime

| iPhone model | Screen resolution | QuickTime window size (approx.) |
|---|---:|---|
| iPhone 16 Pro Max | 2868 × 1320 | Scales to fit your Mac display |
| iPhone 16 Pro | 2622 × 1206 | Scales to fit your Mac display |
| iPhone 16 / 15 | 2556 × 1179 | Scales to fit your Mac display |
| iPhone SE (3rd gen) | 1334 × 750 | Smaller window, 1:1 at this resolution |

QuickTime renders the display at the best resolution the Mac can show. On a Retina Mac, the capture is suitable for documentation and marketing use.

## Method 3: Xcode Simulator and device screenshots

### Capture a connected device

1. Connect the iPhone via USB.
2. Open Xcode and choose **Window > Devices and Simulators**.
3. Select the iPhone in the sidebar.
4. Click **Take Screenshot**.

Xcode saves a native-resolution image directly to the Mac desktop, without window chrome or compression.

### Capture the iOS Simulator

For your own app or a web page in mobile Safari:

1. Open Xcode and launch the Simulator with the target device.
2. Navigate to the desired screen.
3. Press `Cmd+S` to save the screenshot to the Desktop.

Simulator screenshots use the exact device resolution and include the status bar. You can also choose **File > Save Screen** in the Simulator menu.

## Method 4: Third-party tools

### Bezel

Bezel is a Mac app that mirrors an iPhone or iPad over USB or wirelessly and wraps the display in a realistic, pixel-perfect device frame. It is useful for marketing screenshots, App Store assets, and product documentation where device context is important.

### Apple's Frames shortcut

Apple's **Frames** shortcut, by Federico Viticci, adds the appropriate iPhone frame to an existing device screenshot. Download it from the Shortcuts Gallery, run it, select the screenshot, and let it wrap the image automatically.

## Method 5: Capture on iPhone and access the image on Mac

### AirDrop

1. Take an iPhone screenshot with **Side Button + Volume Up**.
2. Tap the thumbnail preview.
3. Tap **Share** and select the Mac through AirDrop.

### iCloud Photos

With iCloud Photos enabled on both devices, screenshots appear in the Mac's Photos app within seconds. Open Photos, locate the screenshot, and drag it to the Desktop or the required app.

### Universal Clipboard

With Handoff enabled on both devices:

1. Take a screenshot on the iPhone.
2. Tap the thumbnail, then **Done > Copy**; alternatively, open it in Markup and copy it there.
3. On the Mac, press `Cmd+V` to paste it.

Universal Clipboard works between a Mac and iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled.

## Which method should you use?

| Scenario | Best method | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Quick one-off capture | iPhone Mirroring | No cable or setup after initial pairing |
| Pixel-perfect quality | QuickTime (wired) | Native resolution and no compression |
| App development | Xcode device screenshot | Exact device resolution and no chrome |
| Marketing / presentations | Bezel or Frames shortcut | Built-in device frames |
| Bulk screenshots | Screenshot on iPhone + iCloud sync | Capture many screenshots quickly and batch-edit them on Mac |

## Tips for better iPhone screenshots from Mac

### Remove the Dynamic Island and status bar

iPhone Mirroring and QuickTime show the full display, including the Dynamic Island notch and status bar. Crop after capture in Preview with `Cmd+K` after selecting the area to keep, or crop during annotation with LazyScreenshots.

### Match the iPhone's native resolution

Use Xcode's device screenshot feature when documentation or assets must match the iPhone's exact pixel dimensions. QuickTime and iPhone Mirroring scale the display to fit the Mac, so their captured pixels do not exactly match native resolution.

### Capture without notifications

Enable **Do Not Disturb** or a Focus mode on the iPhone before capturing. Toggle it from Control Center on the iPhone or through the mirrored display.
