# How to Screenshot iPhone Mirroring on Mac

**May 19, 2026 · LazyScreenshots Team**

Apple’s iPhone Mirroring window lets you interact with iOS from your Mac, but the iPhone side-button-and-volume-up shortcut does not create a native screenshot through the mirrored connection. We show how to capture the mirrored window with macOS tools.

## Requirements for iPhone Mirroring

| Requirement | Details |
| --- | --- |
| Mac | Apple Silicon (M1 or later), or Intel Mac with T2 chip, running macOS Sequoia 15 or later |
| iPhone | iOS 18 or later |
| Apple Account | Same account on both devices, with two-factor authentication enabled |
| Bluetooth | On for both devices |
| Proximity | iPhone nearby, locked, and not being used by someone else |

Mirroring uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Both devices must be on the same network, and the iPhone must remain locked; you cannot mirror and use it simultaneously.

## How to capture iPhone Mirroring screenshots

### Method 1: Capture the entire window

1. Press `Cmd+Shift+4`, then `Space`.
2. Wait for the cursor to become a camera.
3. Click the iPhone Mirroring window.

This captures the frame, rounded corners, and Dynamic Island cutout. macOS adds a shadow; hold `Option` while clicking to omit it.

### Method 2: Capture only the content area

1. Press `Cmd+Shift+4`.
2. Drag around only the inner iPhone content, avoiding the rounded corners and Dynamic Island.
3. Release to capture.

This produces a rectangular image without device chrome.

### Method 3: Copy to the clipboard

Add `Ctrl` to either capture method:

- `Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+4`, then `Space`: copy the full mirroring window.
- `Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+4` and drag: copy a selected area.

You can then paste the image into Slack, a document, or email without saving a Desktop file.

We can capture the mirroring window and add annotations, device frames, and clean backgrounds: [Try LazyScreenshots Free](https://www.lazyscreenshots.com/).

## Remove rounded corners and Dynamic Island

### Option A: Select inside the frame

Use `Cmd+Shift+4` and draw a selection a few pixels inside the rounded corners. Use the crosshair’s dimension readout for consistent sizing.

### Option B: Capture and crop in Preview

1. Capture the full window with `Cmd+Shift+4`, then `Space`; hold `Option` to omit the shadow.
2. Open the screenshot in **Preview**.
3. Select the area to keep and press `Cmd+K`.
4. Save.

### Option C: Use the Screenshot toolbar

1. Press `Cmd+Shift+5`.
2. Select **Capture Selected Portion**.
3. Resize the selection box around the inner iPhone content.
4. Click **Capture**.

The toolbar remembers the selection’s position and size between captures, which helps with repeated screenshots.

## Improve mirrored image quality

### Network optimization

- Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi rather than 2.4 GHz.
- Keep both devices near the router.
- Close bandwidth-heavy apps such as streaming and large downloads.
- On a congested network, wait for the mirrored display to stabilize.

### Window sizing

- Enlarge the mirroring window as much as possible.
- Retina displays capture at 2x resolution.
- Avoid a tiny window, which produces a smaller, less detailed image.

### Timing

- Wait for animations to finish.
- If blocky compression artifacts appear, wait for the stream to recover.
- Let static content settle before capturing text.

## Mirroring versus native iPhone screenshots

| Feature | Native iPhone screenshot | iPhone Mirroring screenshot |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Resolution | Full device resolution, such as 2796×1290 for iPhone 15 Pro Max | Depends on Mac window size and Retina scaling |
| Saves to | iPhone Photos app | Mac Desktop or configured screenshot location |
| Device chrome | No; clean rectangle | Yes with window capture; crop is possible |
| DRM content | Some apps show black | Same DRM restrictions |
| Image quality | Pixel-perfect | May have slight wireless-streaming compression |
| Convenience | Requires picking up the iPhone | Capture without touching it |

For pixel-perfect, full-resolution images, capture natively on the iPhone or use our [screenshot iPhone from Mac guide](https://www.lazyscreenshots.com/blog/screenshot-iphone-from-mac/). Mirroring is useful for quick captures during a Mac workflow.

## Troubleshooting

### The window is black

- Confirm the iPhone is locked.
- Confirm both devices use the same Apple Account.
- Toggle Bluetooth off and on on both devices.
- Quit and reopen iPhone Mirroring.

### The wrong window is captured

Click the iPhone Mirroring window when using window capture. If other windows overlap, use `Cmd+Shift+4` and manually select the area.

### Screenshots are too small

Drag the window edges to enlarge it before capturing. Output resolution is tied to the displayed window size.

## Quick reference

| Shortcut | Capture |
| --- | --- |
| `Cmd+Shift+4`, then `Space`, click window | Full mirroring window with frame |
| Hold `Option` while clicking | Window without shadow |
| `Cmd+Shift+4`, drag | Selected area, useful for avoiding rounded corners |
| `Cmd+Shift+5` | Screenshot toolbar with repositionable selection |
| Add `Ctrl` | Copy to clipboard instead of saving |
