# How to Screenshot Zoom, Teams & Google Meet Calls on Mac

**April 10, 2026 · LazyScreenshots Team**

We explain how to capture Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet calls on a Mac, including shortcuts, platform-specific techniques, annotation, organization, troubleshooting, and privacy practices.

## Can other participants see when you take a screenshot?

Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet do not notify other participants when you use macOS shortcuts or a third-party screenshot tool. Video calls generally treat screenshots like other screen activity.

A specific exception applies to Zoom webinars where the host has enabled DRM (digital rights management) mode: the screenshot may appear as a black screen. This applies to certain webinar configurations, not regular meetings.

## Quick reference: shortcuts by platform

| What to capture | Best shortcut | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Single participant or speaker | `Cmd+Shift+4` | Select just the video tile you need |
| Gallery view (all participants) | `Cmd+Shift+3` | Captures the entire screen, including all tiles |
| Shared presentation only | `Cmd+Shift+4` then `Space` | Click the presentation window to capture it cleanly |
| Call and your notes side by side | `Cmd+Shift+3` | Captures both windows at once |
| Quick capture to clipboard | `Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+4` | Paste directly into notes or chat without saving a file |

## Capturing Zoom calls

Zoom runs as a native Mac app, so standard macOS screenshot shortcuts work. For gallery view, maximize Zoom first so all participant tiles are visible and evenly arranged. Use `Cmd+Shift+3` for the full screen, or press `Cmd+Shift+4`, then `Space`, to capture only the Zoom window without its shadow.

When someone shares a screen, Zoom may resize and reposition the video layout. To capture shared content without participant thumbnails, switch to side-by-side mode and use area selection with `Cmd+Shift+4`.

Zoom's local recording feature saves periodic snapshots, but these are described as low-resolution and stored in recording folders. A dedicated screenshot tool can capture the exact frame at full resolution.

## Capturing Microsoft Teams calls

Teams on Mac works differently in its desktop and browser versions:

- The desktop app works with all macOS screenshot shortcuts.
- The browser version works in Chrome, Edge, and Safari, but area selection is needed to avoid capturing browser chrome such as tabs and the address bar.

Together Mode and custom backgrounds can produce visual artifacts, especially around hair edges and translucent overlays. For a cleaner participant capture, ask the participant to use a solid background or use gallery view, where each tile has a distinct boundary.

For shared content, press `Cmd+Shift+4` and select the shared-content area. Teams places shared content in the center with participant thumbnails at the edges, making precise cropping practical.

## Capturing Google Meet calls

Google Meet runs entirely in a browser, so screenshots normally include a browser tab. For a clean capture, open Meet's three-dot menu, choose **Full screen**, and then press `Cmd+Shift+3`. This removes browser UI from the capture.

Meet's tiled layout changes dynamically according to who is speaking. To preserve a particular arrangement, right-click the desired participant's tile and select **Pin** before capturing.

For shared presentations, the presenter's content appears in the main area with video feeds in a sidebar. Use area selection for the presentation alone, or capture the full screen when you need context about who was present.

## Capturing shared screens and presentations

Timing matters when capturing a slide or screen because slides can change quickly. Press `Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+4`, select the area, and paste the capture into your notes app immediately.

For multiple rapid captures, a dedicated screenshot tool with a configurable keyboard shortcut can save captures silently to a folder without interrupting the meeting.

Video conferencing platforms compress shared-screen feeds. Capture quality depends on bandwidth, the presenter's display resolution, and platform encoding. For pixel-perfect slides, ask the presenter to share the deck directly after the meeting.

## Annotating meeting screenshots

After capturing, we recommend annotating screenshots when you need to:

- Highlight a UI element discussed during a design review.
- Circle part of a participant's shared screen for follow-up notes.
- Add text callouts for decisions or assigned action items.
- Blur faces or names before sharing outside the original meeting context.

macOS Markup tools are available by clicking the floating thumbnail after a screenshot and support basic annotations. A dedicated screenshot tool can combine capture and annotation in one step.

## Organizing meeting screenshots by project

To keep meeting captures organized:

- Create a folder for each project or client, such as `~/Screenshots/ProjectAlpha/`.
- Configure macOS screenshot settings or a third-party tool to save directly to the relevant folder.
- Include the date in filenames so captures sort chronologically.
- Review and delete captures you no longer need after the meeting; most screenshots lose their value within 24 hours.

Some screenshot tools support rules or quick switching between save destinations, which helps when you have back-to-back meetings for different projects.

## Common problems and fixes

| Problem | Cause | Fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Screenshot shows a black screen | DRM protection or a GPU-acceleration conflict | Disable hardware acceleration in app settings, or use area capture instead of window capture |
| Participant faces are blurry | Low bandwidth reduces video resolution | Ask participants to turn on HD video, or capture during moments of low motion |
| Screenshot includes macOS UI elements | Notification banners or the menu bar were captured | Use Do Not Disturb mode with `Cmd+Shift+click` on the notification icon before capturing |
| Shared screen is pixelated | The platform compresses shared content | Request the original file after the meeting for a high-fidelity reference |

## Privacy considerations

Some meetings contain sensitive information, confidential discussions, or personal content that participants expect to remain within the meeting. Good practice includes:

- Tell participants when you are capturing screenshots for documentation.
- Blur or crop participants who are not relevant to the documentation.
- Do not share meeting screenshots externally without consent from those pictured.
- Check your organization's recording and capture policies; some organizations require explicit consent for any form of meeting capture.
